Samsung unveils world's first flash memory based on 30-nano technology

   By Koh Byung-joon
SEOUL, Oct. 23 (Yonhap) -- Samsung Electronics Co., the world's largest computer-chip maker, said Tuesday it has developed the world's first flash memory chip based on 30-nanometer production technology.

Samsung said in a regulatory filing that the 64-gigabit NAND flash memory will create a US20 billion market over the next three years, offering optimal memory alternatives for such portable devices as mobile handsets, digital cameras and music players. Samsung is the first company in the world to produce flash memory using 30-nano production technology, it added.

A nanometer is one-billionth of a meter, and fewer nanometers means more integrated chip products can be manufactured.
