Foreign banks post 8.3 pct gain in earnings for 2009
SEOUL, March 4 (Yonhap) -- The net income of foreign banks operating in South Korea rose 8.3 percent last year from a year earlier as they paid less to raise funds and cover risky loans, the nation's financial regulator said Thursday.
A total of 51 branches held by 36 overseas lenders here posted a combined 2.4 trillion won (US$2.1 billion) in net profit for 2009, compared with 2.2 trillion won the previous year, the Financial Supervisory Service (FSS) said in a report.
