S. Korea's industrial output grows 36.9 pct in Jan

SEOUL, March 3 (Yonhap) -- South Korea's industrial output grew for a seventh straight month in January, indicating that the economy is making a continued recovery from the global downturn, a government report showed Wednesday.

According to the report by Statistics Korea, production in the mining and manufacturing sectors rose 36.9 percent in January from a year earlier. This marked the seventh straight month of growth since July, when production turned positive after a protracted slump.

The latest output figure is lower than a 38.1 percent on-year expansion predicted in a poll conducted by Yonhap Infomax, the financial news arm of Yonhap News Agency. Production remained unchanged from a month earlier, the report showed.
