SK Telecom, Samsung to provide free smartphone rentals for tourists
SEOUL, Jan. 26 (Yonhap) -- SK Telecom Co. said Tuesday it will launch a free smartphone rental service for foreign tourists to South Korea in a bid to promote the country's top-tier network technology.
SK Telecom said Samsung Electronics Co. and the state-run Korea Tourism Organization (KTO) will also join the "Enjoy Mobile Korea" program to give the rental service to around 250 visitors per week arriving at Incheon International Airport, the country's main gateway.
Visitors can apply for the program via the KTO's website, and selected tourists will be given smartphones for up to five days free of charge.
SK Telecom, South Korea's top mobile carrier, will grant a complimentary data limit of 1 gigabyte per day, and Samsung Electronics will provide the latest devices. The program will benefit around 12,000 foreign tourists a year, the company added.
The smartphone will have the KTO's VisitKorea application that provides various tourism-related information in different languages installed on it.
