SEOUL, Sept. 13 (Yonhap) -- SK hynix Inc. remained silent Wednesday over reports that Japan-based Toshiba Corp. is reconsidering South Korea's No. 2 tech giant as a potential buyer of its memory chip division.

Earlier in the day, Japanese media reported Toshiba has signed a memorandum that includes SK hynix as part of its preferred-bidder consortium. The memorandum, however, is not legally binding.

Last month, a global consortium that included SK hynix was tapped as the preferred negotiating partner for the sale of the memory arm. However, negotiations have since been delayed.

"It looks like nothing is definite," said SK hynix in a press release. "The company does not have any comments."

Sources said Toshiba will finalize the decision during a board of directors meeting slated for next week.

Shares of SK hynix on the Seoul bourse, meanwhile, advanced 1.34 percent to 75,700 won after hitting an intraday high of 77,400 won.
