SEOUL, Feb. 7 (Yonhap) -- NCsoft Corp., South Korea's biggest online game publisher, on Wednesday reported record-breaking annual performance for last year on the back of the global popularity of its mobile game "Lineage M."

Operating income jumped 77.95 percent on-year to 585 billion won (US$538 million) in 2017, and sales soared 78.81 percent to 1.75 trillion won, the company said in a regulatory filing. Net profit came to 443.9 billion won, up 64 percent from the previous year.

The strong results for 2017 were due to the performance of the company's mobile games business, including the continued popularity of "Lineage M," the mobile version of its mega-hit game "Lineage."

Revenues from the mobile game business accounted for 57 percent of the total, the company said, without releasing the revenues from "Lineage M."

By region, sales came in at 1.33 trillion won in South Korea, 140.4 billion won in North America, 43.3 billion won in Japan and 38.3 billion won in Taiwan.

On Wednesday, shares in NCsoft fell 1.92 percent to 409,000 won, outperforming the broader KOSPI's 2.31 percent loss. The earnings were announced after the local market closed.
