S. Korea's export prices down in January on won's strength

SEOUL, Feb. 13 (Yonhap) -- South Korea's export prices fell in January from a month earlier as the Korean currency strengthened against the U.S. dollar, central bank data showed Tuesday.

Export prices fell 0.4 percent last month from the previous month, according to the preliminary data provided by the Bank of Korea (BOK). On an annual basis, export prices dropped 3.5 percent in January.

Export prices of agro-fisheries products decreased 2.1 percent last month from a month ago, and those of industrial goods edged down 0.3 percent.

Meanwhile, import prices rose 0.7 percent in January from a month earlier due to rising oil prices, according to the BOK.

Compared with a year earlier, import prices fell 2.4 percent last month, the central bank said.
