SEOUL, Feb. 14 (Yonhap) -- The world's dynamic random access memory (DRAM) chip market is expected to continue to grow this year on strong demand for chips for data centers and mobile phones, a global market research firm said Wednesday.

DRAMeXchange, a research division of TrendForce, forecast that global DRAM chip sales will increase more than 30 percent in 2018 to reach US$96 billion after posting very strong on-year growth of 76 percent last year.

Samsung Electronics Co.'s planned expansion of its DRAM chip production facility in South Korea will help ease the tight supply of these value-added products to global markets, the research firm said.

In the first half of 2017, the world's largest manufacturer of computer chips invested $11 billion into its semiconductor production line. It is now building a DRAM production line at its semiconductor plant in Pyeongtaek, 70 kilometers south of Seoul.
