Nexon Q2 net profit jumps 66 pct on popularity of global hits

SEOUL, Aug. 9 (Yonhap) -- Online gaming firm Nexon Co. said Thursday its net profit for the second quarter jumped 66 percent on-year on the back of continued popularity of global hits such as "Dungeon & Fighter" and "Maple Story."

   Net profit for the April-June period jumped to 318.7 billion won (US$284.6 million), the company said in a regulatory filing.

Operating income inched down 2 percent on-year to 158.2 billion won while sales increased 2 percent on-year to 472.3 billion won.

Revenue from overseas markets came to 319.5 billion won for the second quarter, the company said. Revenue from the first half of this year came to 1.2 trillion won to surpass the 1-trillion-won mark for the first time.

Nexon was founded in South Korea in 1994, but is headquartered in Japan. The company's stocks were listed on the Tokyo stock exchange starting in late 2011.
