Seoul shares up 1.07 pct in late morning trade

SEOUL, Oct. 12 (Yonhap) -- South Korean stocks traded 1.07 percent higher on Friday, recovering from a more than 4 percent plunge the previous day.

The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index had risen 22.87 points to 2,152.54 as of 11:20 a.m.

Market bellwether Samsung Electronics advanced 2.09 percent and SK Hynix, the second-biggest share on the bourse, vaulted 4.78 percent.

Top cosmetics maker AmorePacific jumped 3.8 percent and LG Household & Health Care also increased 2.47 percent.

But carmakers were bearish, with industry leader Hyundai Motor losing 0.43 percent and its sister Kia Motors falling 0.91 percent.

The local currency was trading at 1,135.95 won against the U.S. dollar, up 8.45 won from the previous session's close.
