SEOUL, Nov. 9 (Yonhap) -- The opening of the South Korean foreign exchange market will be delayed by one hour on the day of the national college exam next week, the market operator said Friday.

The foreign exchange market is set to open at 10 a.m. and close at 3:30 p.m. on Nov. 15 as part of efforts to ease traffic, according to the Seoul Foreign Exchange Market Committee.

The one-hour delay of the financial market on the exam day is an annual routine in South Korea where graduates from prestigious universities still have advantages in getting decent jobs and higher social status.

Hundreds of thousands of people, mostly high school seniors, are scheduled to take the crucial test that starts at 8:40 a.m.
