Japanese company eyes releasing cell phone based on S. Korean actor
TOKYO, Oct. 11 (Yonhap) -- The Japanese management agency for popular South Korean actor Bae Yong-jun said Thursday that it plans to put a cell phone featuring Bae on the Japanese market late this year.
Tokyo-based IMX Inc. has a plan to develop the "BYJ Cell Phone" that includes teaming up with two partners -- Key East Inc. and Accel Corp. -- and utilizing the results of its survey on cell phone use taken this past spring.
Bae became a megastar after playing a leading role in the smash-hit South Korean TV drama series "Winter Sonata," which was first broadcast in Japan in 2003.
According to Accel, a click on the phone enables the device to be transformed into a special Bae Yong-jun unit allowing users access to wallpaper, menu backgrounds and icons, incoming message alerts and alarm-alert ring tones that feature the South Korean actor.
The phone comes with a variety of ring tones that include Bae's recorded voice saying phrases such as, "I want to talk to you on the phone," or "You've received mail." asur@yna.co.kr (END)
