(LEAD) SK Wyberns grab 2007 Korean Series trophy

INCHEON, Oct. 29 (Yonhap) -- The SK Wyberns won the 2007 pro-baseball Korean Series with a come-from-behind 4-2 record, beating the Doosan Bears 5-2 in Game 6 at home in Incheon on Monday.

In the best-of-seven series, SK won four consecutive games after losing two in a row, a first in the pro-league's 26-year-old history.

This was the first victory for the club in the annual postseason series to determine the champion of the Korea Baseball Organization since the club's launch in 2000.

SK's slugger Kim Jae-hyun, 32, hit a solo homer and was named MVP in a press vote conducted after the game, winning 65 of 71 ballots. Kim led his team's victory in the series with two home runs, four RBIs and a batting average of 0.364.

Kim said in a press conference after the game, "My time as a baseball player is running out, and thus I earnestly yearned for a victory in the series more than any other time. I'm deeply touched with by victory."
Doosan scored their first run at the top of the first inning when Kim Hyun-soo hit a single, followed by a double by Kim Dong-joo.

At the bottom of the third inning, SK turned the tide by hitting a single by Chung Keun-woo and a homer by Lim Tae-hoon. Kim Jae-hyun's solo home run soon followed to make the score 3-1.

SK further widened their lead in the bottom of eighth inning by three hits, making the score 5-1.

A desperate Doosan scored just once more in the final inning.

"I am so glad, and I'd like to share the joy with a lot of people," said SK club owner Chey Tae-won, also chairman of South Korea's SK Group.

"I am so happy to win the Korean Series, following a victory in the U.S. World Series in 2005," said coach Lee Man-soo, a former pitcher of Chicago White Sox.

"This is the third victory of its kind, but this is the first time for me to cry with joy. I'm also happy that we could give a beautiful gift to our manager, Kim Sung-keun," catcher Park Kyung-whan said.

With the victory, manager Kim Sung-keun achieved his long-cherished dream that has escaped him since he started leading clubs in 1984. SK is the sixth team he has led this season.

Meanwhile, the championship earned SK a berth in the Konami Cup in Japan set for Nov. 8, a regional tournament that invites the top four clubs from South Korea, Japan, China and Taiwan.
