(LEAD) Doctors declare boxing champion Choi brain dead
SEOUL, Jan. 2 (Yonhap) -- South Korean boxing champion Choi Yo-sam was declared brain dead Wednesday after more than a week of unconsciousness resulting from a down-to-the-wire title match, doctors said.
Choi, 35, went into a coma on Christmas Day, Dec. 25, after successfully defending his World Boxing Organization intercontinental flyweight championship title against Indonesian challenger Heri Amol. The ill-fated boxer has since been relying on a life support system.
