SEOUL, March 5 (Yonhap) -- Gold and silver commemorative coins for South Korean figure skating sensation Kim Yu-na will be issued next week to mark her dazzling gold-medal performance at the Vancouver Winter Olympics, the country's Olympic committee said Friday.

The 20-year-old Kim gave a mesmerizing performance to win South Korea's first Olympic figure skating gold last week with a new world record of 228.56 points. It was the country's first Winter Olympic gold outside short track and speed skating.

"The coins are to celebrate her achievement and commemorate the touching and joyful moments," the Korean Olympic Committee said.

The coins, manufactured by the Perth Mint in Australia, will come in two kinds -- a quarter-ounce gold and one-ounce silver. The front face of the coins features a scene of her free skating performance during the Games, her signature and the KOC logo.

The gold coin will go on sale for 880,000 won (US$770) and the silver for 121,000 won on Monday next week.
