SEOUL, Feb. 17 (Yonhap) -- South Korean baseball club Samsung Lions on Friday announced their signing of former major league Darin Ruf.

The Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) club said they've inked Ruf to a one-year deal worth US$1.1 million.

Ruf, 30, spent all five of his major league seasons with the Philadelphia Phillies, with 35 homers and 96 RBIs in 286 career games.

Ruf hit 14 homers in just 73 games in 2013 and launched 12 homers in 106 games in 2015.

The right-handed batter has played first base, third base, left field and right field in the majors.

The Lions earlier tried to sign Mauro Gomez but ended contract talks when Gomez refused to undergo a medical test in South Korea.

Ruf is scheduled to join the Lions in their Japanese training camp on Saturday.

The Lions have completed their foreign player acquisitions, having earlier signed two pitchers, Anthony Ranaudo and Zach Petrick.
