SEOUL, Dec. 27 (Yonhap) -- South Korea's defense ministry said Wednesday it will sign an agreement with the PyeongChang Winter Olympics organizing committee and Gangwon Province to cooperate for the success of the games.

The ministry will offer full support associated with manpower, equipment and other materials for the preparations and hosting of the event to open in early February.

The accord will be inked by Defense Minister Song Young-moo, Gangwon Gov. Choi Moon-soon and Lee Hee-beom, head of the PyeongChang Winter Olympics organizing committee.

The ministry will also explore measures to help the eastern mountainous province bordering North Korea promote its tourist projects, which would include the removal of some barbed wire fences and an adjustment to the military facility preservation zone.
