BUSAN, May 17 (Yonhap) -- The annual Asian Project Market (APM), the biggest film investment and co-production market in Asia, has begun to receive applications for new projects for this year from around the world, its organizer, based in Busan, said Thursday.

Launched in 1998 as a subsidiary event of the Busan International Film Festival, the APM aims to discover fresh feature film projects ranging from big-scale commercial film projects to low-budget indies and links them with global film investors, producers and distributors.

The market has so far selected 527 projects, with some 230 of them made into films, according to the organizer.

In recent years, some APM-selected movies were invited to renowned film festivals, such as the Cannes Film Festival and the Berlin International Film Festival.

"This year we plan to select some 30 new projects," the organizer said.

Applications can be submitted via the APM website (apm.asianfilmmarket.org), and the deadline is June 15, it said.

The 21st APM will take place in Busan from Oct. 7-9, it added.
