SEOUL, Aug. 8 (Yonhap) -- South Korea slipped 13 spots to No. 56 in the latest FIFA rankings released on Thursday.
South Korea fell out of the top 50 for the first time since July 2007, after going winless at the East Asian Cup tournament it hosted late last month.
South Korea played to scoreless draws against Australia and China, and then lost to Japan 2-1.
Japan remained the top-ranked country in the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) at No. 37, the same ranking as the previous month. Australia dropped six spots to No. 46. Iran stayed at No. 52.
Spain remained at No. 1, followed by Germany, Colombia, Argentina and the Netherlands in the top five.
Peru, which will face South Korea in a friendly match in Suwon, about 45 kilometers south of Seoul next Wednesday, dropped three spots to No. 22. Croatia, South Korea's friendly opponent for a on Sept. 10, stayed at No. 10.
