2017 KCON schedules fixed, expands to Mexico, Australia
SEOUL, March 6 (Yonhap) -- KCON, a global Korean pop music and culture convention, is returning this year and will be held for the first time in Mexico and Australia, its organizer said Monday.
This year's KCON will kick off in Mexico City at the Mexico City Arena for two days from March 17, according to CJ E&M, which hosts the event focused primarily on Korean pop music artists and performances.
The first-ever KCON held in Mexico will feature evening concerts by the latest and hottest K-pop musicians, including the BTS (Bangtan Boys), EXID and Red Velvet. Meet-and-greets, K-pop dance lectures and Korean food tasting events will also be available for attendees.
The convention will then head to Makuhari Messe in Chiba, Japan, on May 19-21, followed by two American events at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey, June 23-24 and at the LA Convention Center in Los Angeles Aug. 18-20. KCON is also scheduled to hold its first event in Australia in September, with the exact date and venue pending.
Having started in Irvine, California, in 2012, KCON has become somewhat of an annual pilgrimage for K-pop fans around the globe, attracting more than 350,000 attendees throughout its past five-year run.
"Through KCON, we will lead the efforts in nurturing the 'K-life style' as a future growth engine," Shin Hyung-kwan, head of CJ E&M's music contents division, said.
