BTS wins Shorty Award for social media influence

SEOUL, April 24 (Yonhap) -- K-pop boy band Bangtan Boys, or BTS, won a global award for influence on social media, its management agency said Monday.

The group was chosen as the winner in the music category of the 9th Shorty Awards on Sunday (local time) in New York, Big Hit Entertainment said.

BTS was the only Asian group among the nominees, beating globally popular rappers and singers including Ariana Grande and Britney Spears.

The seven-member group has a strong presence on Twitter and Instagram. In March last year, Forbes named it the most retweeted artist. Earlier this month, it was nominated the "Top Social Media Artist" at the Billboard Music Awards 2017.

From April 22, it has been touring around Asia as part of its global tour "2017 BTS Live Trilogy Episode III The Wings Tour."
