The Busan Sea Festival has opened on Aug. 1 every year since 1996 on various beaches in Busan, including Haeundae and Gwangalli. The festival in the country's largest port city consists of various programs and cultural performances showcasing the city's attractions. Peach is one of many summer fruits in Korea. There are many peach festivals held across the country from July through September. The peach festival to be held at the Sejong Campus of Korea University in Jochiwon will offer cooking shows with peaches, performances of folk plays, peach picking, a singing contest, a peach-eating competition and facial massages with peach seed oil.

A re-enactment of a heroic sea battle during the Hideyoshi Invasion of Korea more than four centuries ago will be conducted from Aug. 14 in the waters off Tongyeong, South Gyeongsang Province. In the Hansan Daecheop, or Great Battle of Hansan, Korean naval ships led by Adm. Yi Sun-sin destroyed an invading Japanese armada. Over 100 ships will take part in the re-enactment, which will be the highlight of the commemorative Hansan Daecheop Festival.

The Seoul Fringe Festival will provide a showcase of independent artists.
