"Hanji" is traditional Korean paper handmade from the bark of the mulberry plant. Before modern times, hanji was the only paper used in Korea. Today, it is used for handicrafts and costumes. This year's hanji festival will include a national hanji craft contest, a hanji fashion show, an exhibition of hanji products and hanji-making events. Visitors will also be able to buy various kinds of hanji and hanji products. Jeonju, 243 kilometers south of Seoul, is an ancient city famous for its rich cultural legacy. Wanju is a nearby county about 30 minutes' drive from Jeonju. Shuttle buses will carry visitors between Jeonju and Wanju from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. May 4 to May 6.

Bamboo has long been a major source of craft items in Korea, and Damyang, South Jeolla Province, is famous for its abundant bamboo forests. The program includes making various bamboo craft items, making traditional liquor in bamboo containers, martial arts competitions using bamboo swords and bamboo raft rides, as well as various music and dance performances using instruments made of bamboo. A bamboo fair will give visitors opportunities to look at various bamboo crafts at the Damyang Stadium.
