SEOUL, Sept. 30 (Yonhap) -- South Korea ranked third among member nations of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) in terms of their ratio of research spending to gross domestic product (GDP) last year, the government said Thursday.

The country's spending on research and development (R&D) reached 37.92 trillion won (US$33.30 billion) in 2009, accounting for 3.57 percent of its gross domestic product (GDP), the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology said in a report.
