Elpida's ties with Taiwan chip makers unlikely to hit Korean rivals
By Kim Young-gyo

Elpida, Japan's largest semiconductor manufacturer, announced Thursday that it is mulling buying shares in Taiwanese chip makers in a bid to compete with market leader Samsung Electronics Co. and second-ranked Hynix Semiconductor Inc., both from South Korea.
