State ordered to pay 1.82 bln won to Seoul City over oil leak from U.S. Army base
SEOUL, Aug. 21 (Yonhap) -- The government Tuesday was ordered by the court to pay 1.82 billion won (US$ 1.93 million) to the Seoul city administration in compensation for an oil leak from a U.S. military base in central Seoul.
The Status of Forces Agreement (SOFA) on the legal status of U.S. servicemen and property in South Korea requires the government to compensate for any damage done to civilians by U.S. troops stationed here.
