S. Korean astronaut to cancel schedule

DAEJEON, April 28 (Yonhap) -- South Korea's first astronaut, Yi So-yeon, will cancel her entire schedule to rest and undergo medical tests, the Korea Aerospace Research Institute (KARI) said Monday.

Following her historic mission to the International Space Station (ISS), Yi returned to Earth on April 19 in a TMA-11 capsule, which had communication problems and landed on its side 420 kilometers away from its designated landing zone.

"Yi's physical condition is not good due to shocks she suffered when her capsule landed, so she will cancel everything on her schedule so she can rest and get a medical check-up at an Air Force hospital in Cheongju, North Chungcheong Province," the state-run institute said.

A KARI official said Yi, a biosystems engineer at KARI, had hoped to fulfill her schedule as planned, but the institute decided to conduct a medical checkup first, saying that her schedule can be readjusted according to the results.
