U.S. reiterates intentions to have bilateral nuke talks with N. Korea: State Dept.
By Hwang Doo-hyong WASHINGTON, Nov. 4 (Yonhap) -- The United States said Wednesday it is ready to talk to North Korea bilaterally but has not decided whether to send its point man on North Korea to Pyongyang to press for a resumption of the stalled multilateral nuclear negotiations.
"We are committed to the six-party process," State Department spokesman Ian Kelly said. "We are willing to have bilateral talks with the North Koreans if these talks are conducted in the context of the six-party talks and if they lead to the resumption of the six-party talks."
Asked if Stephen Bosworth, U.S. special representative for North Korea, will visit the North Korean capital, Kelly said, "When the time is right, we will make our decision."
The six-party talks, involving the two Koreas, the United States, China, Russia and Japan, have been deadlocked since U.N. sanctions on North Korea for its nuclear and missile tests.
