President Lee sends congratulatory message to speed skating gold medalist

SEOUL, Feb. 16 (Yonhap) -- President Lee Myung-bak sent a congratulatory message Tuesday to Mo Tae-bum, who won the first Olympic gold medal in South Korea's speed skating history, calling him a "proud treasure" of the country, Lee's office said.

Mo won a surprise victory in the men's 500 meter speed skating in the Winter Olympic in Vancouver earlier in the day.

The president said that Mo is a "proud treasure who rewrote South Korea's speed skating history," and that he made a big impression and brought jubilation to South Korean people with his strong spirit and excellent skills, the presidential office Cheong Wa Dae said in a press release.
