(Yonhap Interview) S. Korea's tensions with Iran won't affect Iraq's efforts to forge partnership with Seoul: envoy
SEOUL, Aug. 30 (Yonhap) -- South Korea's diplomatic tensions with Iran won't affect Iraq's efforts to build a partnership with Seoul, the top envoy from Baghdad said, as Seoul mulls possible financial sanctions against Tehran amid concern the move could affect its relations with other Middle Eastern nations.

"It has got nothing to do with the relationship of Korea and Iraq," Amb. Khalil Al-Mosawi said in an interview with Yonhap News Agency on Sunday, referring to Seoul's "difficulty" with Iran over possible sanctions and a diplomatic row with Libya over an espionage case.
"Iraq is an independent state. It makes its own policies based on their own interests," the ambassador said. "What Korea does with other countries, in my view, does not affect" Iraq's efforts to forge a partnership with Seoul, he said.
