Foreign population in South Korea hits record high
SEOUL, Aug. 9 (Yonhap) -- The number of foreign residents in South Korea has surpassed the 1.4 million mark, the home affairs ministry said Thursday, indicating that the country's population is becoming more heterogeneous.

According to a census of report released by the Ministry of Public Administration and Security, there were a total of 1,409,577 foreign residents, including multiethnic Koreans, living in the country, up 11.4 percent from a year earlier, as of Jan. 1. The figure represents about 2.8 percent of the country's entire population.
