SEOUL, Sept. 14 (Yonhap) -- A liberal South Korean civil organization said Friday that it will send a delegation to the upcoming United Nations General Assembly to ask for international support to declare an end to the Korean War and halt sanctions on North Korea.

The South Korean branch of the All-Korean Committee for Implementation of the June 15 Joint Declaration said its delegation will deliver a letter on its plea for an end-of-war declaration and the lifting of anti-North sanctions to the U.N. during its assembly slated for Sept. 24-30 in New York.

"The civic delegation will earnestly deliver the South Korean people's wish for peace to the U.N.," the committee said in a news conference in Seoul.

"The delegation will present a letter calling for a declaration to end the Korean War and the suspension of anti-North Korea sanctions to the U.N. secretariat and will push to hold a joint conference with representatives of various non-governmental organizations," it said.

The delegation also wants a meeting with South and North Korean ambassadors to the U.N., the committee said, adding a meeting with the North's new envoy, Kim Sung, is "certain."

The South Korean branch of the All-Korean Committee for Implementation of the June 15 Joint Declaration is committed to implementing an inter-Korean summit agreement reached in Pyongyang on June 15, 2000.

The 73rd U.N. General Assembly opens in New York on Sept. 18 and the General Debate featuring keynote speeches by heads of state and ministers from member countries will be held from Sept. 25 to Oct. 1.
