Delay of troop control transfer not an option: defense chief

SEOUL, March 26 (Yonhap) -- The scheduled transfer of wartime operational control of South Korean troops back to South Korea from the United States is not an option that can be renegotiated, but a must-do for the enhancement of the alliance between the two nations, Defense Minister Lee Sang-hee said Wednesday.

The remarks from the new conservative administration's first defense chief come amid concerns that the combined defense capabilities of South Korean and U.S. troops here could significantly deteriorate following the 2012 transfer of wartime operational control, often called OPCON.
