Majority of teen workers paid less than minimum wage: survey

SEOUL, March 31 (Yonhap) -- More than half of teenage employees are being paid less than the hourly minimum wage, and most of them are not enrolled in social security, a survey released Wednesday showed.

The Korean Labor and Society Institute said of 3.29 million teens nationwide, 195,000 of them are paid employees. These teens on average were paid 4,111 won (US$3.60) per hour on average, just over the minimum hourly wage of 4,000 won, but 63.7 percent of them were found to be paid below the minimum, the institute said.
