Human rights panel tells broadcaster to remove age limit on debuting comedians
SEOUL, July 1 (Yonhap) -- The state human rights watchdog agency advised a major broadcaster Thursday to remove an upper age limit in recruiting new comedians, saying it amounts to "irrational discrimination."
Restricting applicants to those between the ages of 18 and 30 violates a law prohibiting discrimination based on age, the National Human Rights Commission said in a statement.
The plaintiff submitted a petition in March after not being able to audition at one of the three leading broadcasters. The remaining two companies have received applications from anyone aged 18 or above.
