(LEAD) Park sacks spokesman Yoon in middle of trip to U.S.
(ATTN: UPDATES throughout with announcement)
LOS ANGELES, May 9 (Yonhap) -- South Korean President Park Geun-hye has fired her spokesman Yoon Chang-jung for involvement in an unspecified "unsavory" act, her office announced Thursday, a surprise decision in the middle of her trip to the United States.

Senior presidential press secretary Lee Nam-ki announced Yoon's sacking, saying he was "personally involved in an unsavory incident, showed an inappropriate act for a high-level official and hurt the national dignity."

Lee did not elaborate on what Yoon was involved in, only saying that South Korea's Embassy in Washington is trying to determine the exact circumstances of the incident. Lee said the government will make public its finding.
