SEOUL, Sept. 4 (Yonhap) -- President Park Geun-hye's approval rating topped the 50-percent level for the first time in one and a half years, apparently boosted by a positive public view of her policy on North Korea and diplomatic issues, a poll showed Friday.

The survey by Gallup Korea showed 54 percent of South Koreans approved of Park's accomplishment, while 38 percent was negative.

It conducted the poll of 1,003 adults across the nation from Sept. 1-4. The margin of error is plus and minus 3.1 percentage points.

Public support for Park has been on a steady rise in past months, especially following a recent inter-Korean deal on defusing tensions. A majority of Koreans also apparently gave a positive assessment of her decision to attend China's war anniversary event earlier this week.

The latest figure of Park's rating is the highest since the sinking of the Sewol ferry in April last year.

On the popularity of political parties, 44 percent of the respondents backed the ruling Saenuri Party and only 22 percent sided with main opposition New Politics Alliance for Democracy.
