Hyundai's production in Russia reaches 1 mln
SEOUL, Oct. 9 (Yonhap) -- South Korea's No. 1 carmaker Hyundai Motor Co. said Friday its combined production in its Russian factory has reached 1 million units since 2011 despite economic and foreign exchange volatilities in the country.
The company said it has produced 898,000 units of cars for domestic sales and 97,000 units for exports in its Saint Petersburg-based plant through September this year since January 2011 and surpassed the landmark unit this month.
Hyundai said its Accent subcompact, marketed as the Solaris in Russia, boasts various features for the country's cold weather conditions, successfully appealing to local consumers.
The company added it has sold 114,644 units of the Solaris in Russia last year. Its sales result for the January-August period of 2015 came to 74,534 units.
Hyundai said such results are significant considering the latest slowdown in the Russian automobile industry coupled with foreign exchange uncertainties.
