S. Korean shares up 0.24 pct in late morning trade
SEOUL, March 7 (Yonhap) -- South Korean shares traded 0.24 percent higher late Monday morning on gains in chemicals, oil refiners and financials.
The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) rose 4.68 points to 1,960.31 as of 11:20 a.m.
Top market cap Samsung Electronics edged up 0.25 percent. LG Chem, the country's leading chemicals firm, rose 0.17 percent and top oil refiner SK Innovation added 2.34 percent.
Shinhan Financial, the country's most profitable banking group, rose 2.3 percent and KB Financial, the No. 2 banking group, rose 1.89 percent.
In contrast, No. 1 carmaker Hyundai Motor shed 1.02 percent.
The local currency was changing hands at 1,199.40 won against the greenback, up 4 won from Friday's close.
