SEOUL, May 16 (Yonhap) -- A TV series about two riches-to-rags sisters got off to a modest start over the weekend, data showed Monday.

The pilot of "Beautiful Gong Shim" captured 8.9 percent of viewers on Saturday, with the subsequent episode on Sunday inching up to 9.6 percent, data by Nielsen Korea showed.

In the SBS romantic comedy, an idiosyncratic lawyer (Namgoong Min), who provides pro bono legal consulting to the poor and makes a living as a chauffeur at night, moves in with two sisters.

Minah of the girl group Girl's Day stars as Gong Shim who inherited all the less desirable traits of her parents -- the father's unsightly appearance and the mother's brain, or lack thereof. Gong Mi (Seo Hyo-rim), who is the "prettier" and "smarter" of the two, tries to restore her family's prior wealth by seducing an heir to a business magnate.

An MBC period drama starring actor Go Soo and actress Jin Se-yeon continued to flirt with the 20-percent mark this weekend.

"The Flower in Prison" follows the adventures of a female prisoner-turned-spy (Jin) and a business-savvy ringleader (Go) during the Joseon Dynasty (1392-1910).

The weekend series recorded 20.9-percent viewership on Saturday and retreated to 19.8 percent the next day. The series also reached the 20-percent milestone two weeks ago.

On the cable front, tvN reality series "New Journey to the West 2" topped the 5-percent mark, considered meaningful for a cable show.

The comedy show, available both on TV and online, logged 5.01 percent on Friday. The sequel to a popular adventure series features comedians Kang Ho-dong and Lee Soo-geun, singer Eun Ji-won and actor Ahn Jae-hyeon.

A tvN drama about two women named Oh Hae-young maintained solid viewership with an average of 3.6 percent last week.

"Oh Hae-young Again," the Monday-Tuesday night series, tells the trials and tribulations of a "regular" Oh Hae-young (Seo Hyun-jin) who is constantly compared to a "prettier and smarter" Oh Hae-young (Jeon Hye-bin).
