SAPPORO, Feb. 17 (Yonhap) -- Alpine skier Jung Dong-hyun was named South Korea's flag bearer at the opening ceremony of the eighth Asian Winter Games here on Friday.

The Korean Sport and Olympic Committee (KSOC) said Jung will lead the South Korean delegation into Sapporo Dome for the opening ceremony on Sunday. The continental competition will wrap up on Feb. 26.

Jung, 28, is the reigning Asian Games gold medalist in the men's super combined. At the International Ski Federation (FIS) World Cup last month in Zagreb, Croatia, Jung finished 14th in slalom, the best World Cup performance by a South Korean skier.

South Korea will have 142 athletes in five sports. It has set out to win at least 15 gold medals -- which would be its record at an Asian Winter Games -- and finish in the top two for the first time since 2003.
