SEOUL, March 9 (Yonhap) -- Kooksoondang Brewery Co. said Friday it is exporting a limited edition of its Korean traditional liquor makgeolli to Japan ahead of the island country's cherry blossom season.

The Korean brewer said 100,000 bottles of the "cherry blossom edition" rice wine will be sold in major Japanese cities, including Tokyo and Osaka, during the flower festival.

It marks the second consecutive year that the company will export the limited edition liquor to Japan, according to Kooksoondang.

The product is the same as the company's draft makgeolli, except with a design of cherry blossoms on the bottle, it said.

Overall exports of makgeolli have been on a constant decline. In 2016, outbound shipments of the Korean rice wine came to US$12.87 million, down 75.6 percent from 2011, when the tally reached its peak at $52.74 million, according to data from the Korea Agro-Fisheries & Food Trade Corp.
