SEOUL, May 14 (Yonhap) -- Renault Samsung Motors Corp. on Monday launched the Renault Clio subcompact car in South Korea to boost its lackluster sales.

The hatchback comes with a 1.5-liter diesel engine and carries price tags of between 19 million won (US$17,800) and 23 million won, the company said in a statement.

In the January-April period, overall sales fell 0.6 percent to 87,996 vehicles from 88,563 units a year earlier, it said.

The company's current lineup includes the SM3 compact, the all-electric SM3 Z.E. sedan, the QM3 subcompact sport utility vehicle (SUV), and the SM5, SM6 and SM7 sedans.

It also assembles Nissan Motor Corp.'s Rogue SUV at its only plant in Busan, 450 kilometers south of Seoul, for export.

Renault S.A. owns an 80 percent stake in Renault Samsung.
