Seoul share trade flat in late-morning trade

SEOUL, May 17 (Yonhap) -- Trade in South Korean stocks was nearly flat late Thursday morning as blue-chip shares saw mixed trade in different sectors.

The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) edged down 2.6 points, or 0.11 percent, to 2,457.22 as of 11:20 a.m.

Tech shares were experiencing bearish trade, with market giant Samsung Electronics slipping 0.6 percent and No. 2 chipmaker SK hynix losing 0.57 percent.

Pharmaceutical shares also lost ground, with Celltrion falling 0.56 percent and Samsung BioLogics retreating 2.29 percent.

Construction shares, however, gained ground, with Hyundai Engineering & Construction rising 3.32 percent and GS Engineering advancing 3.71 percent.

Steelmakers continued to see bullish trade, with POSCO adding 0.55 percent and Hyundai Steel increasing 3.97 percent.

The local currency was trading at 1,077.95 won against the U.S. dollar, down 0.35 won from the previous session's close.
