SEOUL, June 15 (Yonhap) -- The welfare ministry said Friday that pension payment regulations will be eased so minors can inherit pension benefits even if they do not live with or receive support from their deceased parents.

The new regulation, to take effect from Wednesday, reflects recent court rulings that have acknowledged familial ties between minors and parents regardless of whether they live together.

The present regulation makes children ineligible to receive pension benefits for surviving family members unless they are proven to have maintained relations.

The ministry in April amended the regulation to let children and grandchildren regain eligibility for pension inheritance in the case of the cancellation of an adoption and regardless of any changes in their level of handicap.
