N. Korea criticizes U.N. move to keep special rapporteur for human rights
SEOUL, June 17 (Yonhap) -- North Korea on Sunday strongly criticized a United Nations plan to maintain monitoring efforts over its human rights condition, and vowed that it will not allow any foreign observers into the country.
As the U.N. Human Rights Council is likely to decide on the future of its special rapporteur system for North Korea, Myanmar, Cuba and Belarus on Monday, the body's president, Luis Alfonso de Alba, suggested in the latest report that close watch be maintained only over North Korea and Myanmar. His report left out Cuba and Belarus.
