SEOUL (Yonhap) -- The following is a chronological review of major developments related to North Korea from Aug. 9 to Aug. 15, 2007.
August 9 The (North) Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) says the DPRK (North Korea) has published a kind of souvenir sheet on orchids.
9 Kim Jung-rin, secretary of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of (North) Korea (WPK), meets with a delegation from the Lao People's Revolutionary Youth Union, led by the deputy secretary of its central committee, Vanhna Douangphachanh, at the Mansudae Assembly Hall in Pyongyang.
9 Foreign Minister Pak Ui-chun meets with Geoff Raby, Australia's ambassador to the DPRK, who paid a courtesy call on him.
9 Kim Yong-nam, president of the Presidium of the Supreme People's Assembly (SPA), receives credentials from Australian Ambassador to the DPRK Geoff Raby at the Mansudae Assembly Hall.
9 The KCNA says a rain front in the middle of Korea has brought about torrential rains in the west and east coasts of the country, inflicting heavy damage to agriculture and other sectors of the national economy and people's livelihoods.
9 North Korean leader Kim Jong-il sends a wreath to the bier of O Ki-sok, who was chief secretary of the Jongphyong County Committee of the WPK and an SPA deputy, and was given the Kimilsung Order and Labor Hero awards, expressing deep condolences over his death.
9 Vice Marshal of the (North) Korean People's Army (KPA) Kim Il-chol, the minister of the People's Armed Forces, meets with a friendship visiting group of the Chinese People's Liberation Army led by Vice Admiral Tong Shiping.

10 Senior colonel-level talks between the militaries of the DPRK and the U.S. are held at Panmunjom at the request of the DPRK, where the North strongly protests the U.S. forces for officially announcing its plan to stage the joint military exercises Ulji Focus Lens in South Korea from Aug. 20.
10 The KCNA says the DPRK women's football team trounced Ireland 3-0 on Aug. 7 in the preliminaries of the 24th World University Games under way in Thailand.

11-13 Foreign diplomatic envoys and representatives of international organizations in Pyongyang visit Mt. Paektu on the threshold of the 62nd anniversary of Korea's liberation.
13 Kim Jong-il, together with Kim Yong-nam, sends a message of greetings to Fidel Castro Ruz, the leader of Cuba, on his 81st birthday.
13 The KCNA says the DPRK won the gold and first prizes at the 2007 Northeastern China International Porcelain Fair held in Shenyang, Liaoning Province from July 20 to 23 for a celadon vase inlaid with the image of a blue dragon and for a reticulated celadon vase with the image of a silver crane.
