SEOUL (Yonhap) -- The following is a chronological review of major developments related to North Korea from May 22-28, 2008.

22 The (North) Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) says a 2008-2010 plan on cultural exchange between the DPRK (North Korea) government and the Ethiopian government was signed in Addis Ababa on May 16.

   22 Vishwanath, director-general of the International Institute of the Juche (self-reliance) Idea, arrives in Pyongyang by air.

   23 Kim Yong-nam, president of the Presidium of the Supreme People's Assembly (SPA), sends a message of greetings to Issaias Afewerki, president of Eritrea, on the occasion of its independence day.

   23 Senior party and state officials enjoy a performance by members of the art groups participating in the first contest of the second-term of art groups of families of servicepersons of the (North) Korean People's Army (KPA) at the People's Palace of Culture in Pyongyang, the KCNA says.

   23 Contact between representatives of the North, South and overseas committees for implementing the June 15 Joint Declaration is made in the North's southern border city of Kaesong.

   23 Kim Yong-nam sends a message of greetings to Jean Ping, chairman of the Committee of the African Union, on the occasion of the Day of Africa.

   24 A spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs hails the agreement reached to settle the dispute in Lebanon.

   25 Kim Yong-nam sends a message of greetings to Abdullah II, king of Jordan, on the occasion of the 62nd anniversary of its independence.

   25 The KCNA says North Korean leader Kim Jong-il inspected a sub-unit of KPA Unit 324.

   26 Bambang Daranindra, Indonesian charge d'affaires ad interim in Pyongyang, and his embassy officials help members of the DPRK-Indonesia Friendship Yaksu Co-op Farm in Kangso County in farm work.

   26 A delegation of the Indian Foreign Ministry led by its Secretary N. Ravi arrives in Pyongyang.

   26 The KCNA says Kim Jong-il inspected KPA Unit 1727 for training commissioned officers.

   26 The KCNA says Kim Jong-il inspected a sub-unit of KPA Unit 836.

   27 The KCNA says Kim Yong-nam on May 21 sent a message of greetings to Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev on the occasion of the 90th anniversary of its national day.

   27 A delegation of the Workers' Party of (North) Korea led by Vice Department Director of its Central Committee Kim Thae-jong leaves Pyongyang for a trip to Germany, Belgium, Luxembourg and Greece.

   27 The North's top nuclear negotiator Kim Kye-gwan meets with his U.S. counterpart Christopher Hill at the U.S. Embassy in Beijing.

   28 The KCNA says Kim Jong-il enjoyed an art performance given by art squads of KPA Units 324 and 604.

   28 Kim Yong-nam sends a message of greetings to Girma Wolde-Giorgis, president of Ethiopia, on the occasion of its national day.

   28 Yang Hyong-sop, vice president of the SPA Presidium, meets with the delegation of the Indian Foreign Ministry led by Secretary N. Ravi at the Mansudae Assembly Hall.

   28 The KCNA says the current spring weather is having a bad effect on agriculture in the DPRK.

   28 The KCNA says Kim Yong-nam on May 26 sent a congratulatory message to Michel Suleiman upon his election as president of Lebanon.

   28 Kim Jong-il is presented with a gift by the chairman of the U.S. House Committee on Foreign Affairs visiting the DPRK.

   28 The KCNA says Pak Ui-chun, minister of Foreign Affairs of the DPRK, sent a message of greetings to Ojo Maduekwe, foreign minister of Nigeria, on the occasion of the 32nd anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between the two countries.

   28 Le Van Cu, Vietnamese ambassador to the DPRK, and officials of his embassy help members of the DPRK-Vietnam Friendship Migok Co-op Farm in Sariwon City, North Hwanghae Province, in farm work.

   28 A military delegation of Burundi led by Samuel Gahiro, chief of the General Staff of the National Defence Army, arrives in Pyongyang.

   28 Kim Kyok-sik, chief of the General Staff of the KPA, has a friendly talk with the military delegation of Burundi when it paid a courtesy call on him.

   28 The KCNA says Kim Jong-il gave on-the-spot guidance at the February 8 Vinalon Complex in the city of Hamheung, South Hamheung Province.
