SEOUL (Yonhap) -- The following is a chronological review of major developments related to North Korea from July 10-16, 2008.

10 The (North) Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) says Kim Yong-nam, president of the Presidium of the Supreme People's Assembly (SPA), sent greetings to Mongolian President Nambariin Enkhbayar on July 9 for the 87th anniversary of the victory of the Mongolian People's Revolution.

   10 Wreaths are laid before the statue of Kim Hyong-jik, grandfather of Kim Jong-il, in Ponghwa-ri, Kangdong County, Pyongyang, and his grave in Mangyongdae for the 114th anniversary of his birth.

   10 Yang Hyong-sop, vice president of the SPA Presidium, meets with Ri Ki-ha, senior vice president of the International Taekwondo Federation, at the Mansudae Assembly Hall in Pyongyang.

   10 A delegation of the Kimilsung Socialist Youth League headed by Kil Chol-hyok, secretary of its Central Committee, flies from Pyongyang to attend a meeting of the Coordinating Council of the World Federation of Democratic Youth in Venezuela.

   10 The State Academy Beryozka Dancing Troupe of Russia, named after N.S. Nadezhdina and headed by Mira Koltsova, arrives in Pyongyang.

   10 The KCNA reports that Kim Jong-il inspected the (North) Korean People's Army (KPA) Unit 895 honored with the title of "Ojunghup-led Seventh Regiment."
10 Kim Yong-nam sends greetings to Frederique de Menezes, president of Sao Tome and Principe, on the 33rd anniversary of its independence and proclamation of the republic.

   10 A reception is given by the (North) Korean Committee for Cultural Relations with Foreign Countries and the Central Committee of the DPRK (North Korea)-China Friendship Association at Okryu Restaurant for the 47th anniversary of the conclusion of the DPRK-China Treaty of Friendship, Cooperation and Mutual Assistance.

   11 Kim Yong-nam meets with Yrjo Kim David Luotonen, outgoing Finnish ambassador to the DPRK, at the Mansudae Assembly Hall.

   11 The KCNA reports that the Taedongmun Cinema, located on the bank of the River Taedong that flows through Pyongyang, has been remodeled to suit the aesthetic taste of the era, while still retaining its 50-year-old appearance.

   11 The KCNA says Kim Jong-il inspected KPA Unit 280.

   11 Xing Haiming, charge d' affaires a.i. of China in Pyongyang, gives a reception at the embassy for the 47th anniversary of the DPRK-China Treaty of Friendship, Cooperation and Mutual Assistance.

   11 A female South Korean tourist who allegedly penetrated into a restricted military area is shot to death by the KPA at Mt. Kumgang, the North's scenic resort on its eastern coast.

   12 The KCNA says a reception was given at the DPRK Embassy in Beijing on July 10 for the 47th anniversary of the conclusion of the DPRK-China Treaty of Friendship, Cooperation and Mutual Assistance.

   12 A Pyongyang schoolchildren's art group headed by Ri Yong-hwan, secretary of the Central Committee of the Kimilsung Socialist Youth League, leaves Pyongyang to visit China.

   12 A spokesman for the Guidance Bureau for Comprehensive Development of Scenic Spots, which oversees the North's tourism business, issues a statement saying the DPRK regrets the death of the female South Korean tourist at Mt. Kumgang, but claims the responsibility of the incident rests entirely with the South.

   13 Kim Yong-nam sends greetings to Philip Byanovic, president of the Republic of Montenegro, on the occasion of its national day.

   13 The KCNA reports that talks of the heads of the delegations to the six-party talks were held in Beijing from July 10-12.

   13 Rodong Sinmun, organ of the North's ruling Workers' Party, rejects South Korean President Lee Myung-bak's suggestion for inter-Korean dialogue.

   15 A delegation of officials in charge of foreign affairs of the KPA, led by Major General An Yong-gi, leaves Pyongyang to visit Mongolia.

   15 Premier of the DPRK Cabinet Kim Yong-il sends a congratulatory message to Mirko Cvetkovic on his appointment as prime minister of the Republic of Serbia.

   16 Choe Thae-bok, SPA chairman, meets with the delegation of the Christian Social People's Party of Luxembourg led by Frank Engel, member of the Standing Committee of the party, at the Mansudae Assembly Hall.

   16 Kim Yong-nam receives credentials from Karunatilaka Amunugama, Sri Lankan ambassador to the DPRK, at the Mansudae Assembly Hall.
