SEOUL (Yonhap) -- The following is a chronological review of major developments related to North Korea from Aug. 7-13, 2008.
7 The (North) Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) says North Korean leader Kim Jong-il gave field guidance to the Hamju Pig Farm and the Hamju Pyonghungdok Goat Farm.
7 Kim Yong-nam, president of the Presidium of the Supreme People's Assembly (SPA), leaves Pyongyang to attend the opening ceremony of the 29th Olympic Games to be held in China as honorary guest.
7 Kim Yong-nam pays a courtesy call on Hu Jintao, general secretary of Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and president of the People's Republic of China (PRC), at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.
7 A Polish exhibition of sports posters and pictures is held in Nampho on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between the DPRK (North Korea) and Poland.
7 The KCNA says the North's team trounced the Nigerian team 1:0 in a women's soccer league match of the 29th Summer Olympic Games in Shenyang, China, on Aug. 6.
7 The KCNA says talks were held in Pyongyang on Aug. 6 between the delegations of the DPRK Ministry of Railways and the Russian Railways Company.
8 The KCNA says Kim Jong-il gave field guidance to the Nursery Shop of the Riwon County Forest Management Station in South Hamgyong Province.
8 Kim Yong-nam met with Wu Bangguo, chairman of the Standing Committee of the Chinese National People's Congress, Xi Jingping, member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the CPC and Vice President of the PRC, at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.
8 The Panmunjom Mission of the (North) Korean People's Army releases a detailed report dismissing as "sophism" claims by the U.S. that the already demised Neutral Nations Supervisory Commission still exists.
8 The KCNA says that a traditional sports and amusements contest of school youth and children from across the country was held on Moran Hill in Pyongyang between Aug. 4-8.
9 The KCNA says Kim Jong-il inspected the Three Revolution Red Flag Women's Company under KPA Unit 3407.
9 Kim Yong-nam returns home after attending the opening ceremony of the Beijing Olympic Games as a guest of honor.
9 The head of North Korea's working military personnel in the area along the East Coast sends a message to the military of the South side, notifying it that the KPA would formally put into force as planned the military measures it clarified in the special statement.
9 A national meeting is held to mark the 20th anniversary of the on-site guidance to the secret camp in Mt. Paektu by Kim Il-sung and Kim Jong-il and the 20th anniversary of the naming of Jongil Peak.
9 Senior officials of the North's Workers' Party, the army and the state, and leading officials of the Party and armed forces organs, working people's organizations, ministries and national institutions visited revolutionary battle sites in the area of Mt. Paektu on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the on-the-spot guidance given by Kim Il-sung and Kim Jong-il to the secret camp in Mt. Paektu and the 20th anniversary of the naming of Jongil Peak.
9 A music and dance performance was given by artistes of the Ryanggang Provincial Art Troupe at the Visitors Hall of the Office for the Management of Revolutionary Battle Sites in the Secret Camp in Mt. Paektu to mark the 20th anniversary of the on-site guidance to the secret camp in Mt. Paektu by Kim Il-sung and Kim Jong-il and the 20th anniversary of the naming of Jongil Peak.
9 A government scientific and technological delegation led by Park Chon-ho, vice president of the State Academy of Sciences, left Pyongyang to participate in the second meeting of the DPRK-Malaysia intergovernmental joint committee for scientific and technological cooperation to be held in Malaysia.
10 The KCNA says Kim Jong-il inspected a sub-unit of KPA Unit 826.
10 The KCNA says Kim Yong-nam on Aug. 8 sent a message of greetings to Chadian President Idriss Deby on the occasion of the 48th anniversary of the independence of the country.
10 The KCNA says an "endless stream" of servicepersons, people from all walks of life and school youth and children are visiting the secret camp in Mt. Paektu on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the naming of Jongil Peak.
10 The KCNA says a (North) Korean book and art exhibition took place in Italy as part of an international cultural festival under the sponsorship of the Italy-DPRK Cultural Association from July 25 to 27.
11 The KCNA says Kim Jong-il inspected a women's company of KPA Unit 1374 and a company of KPA Unit 669, honored with the title of "O Jung-hup-led seventh regiment."
11 Yang Hyong-sop, vice president of the SPA Presidium, met with Glyn Ford, member of the European Parliament from the British Labor Party, at the Mansudae Assembly Hall in Pyongyang.
11 The KCNA says that research measures into strict and prompt prevention of the possible outbreak and spread of bird flu carried out in the North have culminated in some significant successes.
11-12 North Korea and Japan hold the talks in Shenyang, China, to discuss details of their June agreement in which Pyongyang promised to reinvestigate the abduction case.
12 The KCNA says that the mass gymnastic display "May the Country Prosper" produced on the occasion of the 60th founding anniversary of the DPRK was presented at the May Day Stadium in Pyongyang.
13 A national exhibition of young people's scientific and technological achievements opens at the Three-Revolution Exhibition in Pyongyang to mark the Youth Day.
13 The chief of the North Korean military working personnel in the area under the control of the North and South along the East Coast sends a message to the South side on the recent inter-Korean ship collision.
13 Kim Jong-il sends a congratulatory message to Fidel Castro Ruz, first secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba.
13 Kim Yong-nam receives credentials from Anthony Rachobokoane Thibeli, ambassador of Lesotho to the DPRK, at the Mansudae Assembly Hall.
